Celebrity Hairstyles and Hairstyle Trends

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Natalie Aranda As we said good-bye to 2005 we also said good-bye to the top 2005 Celebrity hairstyles. Everywhere you looked, you could see celebrities with many different and fashionable hairstyles from short and sweet to long and elegant, from curly or wavy to up-styles. No matter what the style these celebrities were wearing, they made a fashion statement that everyone else followed after. Two of the most popular celebrities that hit the scene were Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez. Each of these celebrities had a hairstyle that no one else could touch and until recently, many of us only dreamed we could have a Jennifer Aniston Sedu hairstyle or a Jennifer Lopez Sedu hairstyle. The secret behind their gorgeous hairstyle is of course partly due to the sedu flat iron, not to mention what they do prior to using this wonderful sedu flat iron. They both must use a conditioning shampoo and then dry well and again add more conditioning to assist in straightening their hair and making it very soft and flexible. The next step in the Jennifer Aniston sedu hairstyle is to add equal parts of shaping gel and calming serum massaged into the hair. Using a big round hairbrush and your blow dryer, you will be simulating how Jennifer Lopez sedu hairstyle is created. The next thing these two Celebrities have done is the flattening with the sedu flat iron. Now if we decide to wear a Jennifer Aniston sedu hairstyle or a Jennifer Lopez sedu hairstyle we can have practically the same except we will be creating the style in the privacy of our homes without all those expensive stylists, unless we have the desire to go out and find one that will treat us just as special. Will the 2006 hairstyles give us the same great looks with celebrity hairstyles or is there a change a coming? The new in fashion for celebrity hairstyles, or what designers are saying, is that short hair is coming back in style. The bob is one of the hairstyles that is making its way to the big screen and all around Hollywood. This celebrity hairstyle is easy to manage, looks great, and may become the top 2006 hairstyle. Curls are coming back as well in all kinds of lengths from short to long and romantic. I guess we will have to wait and see if the Jennifer Aniston sedu hairstyle or the Jennifer Lopez sedu hairstyle will be one of the prominent celebrity hairstyles in 2006 or if someone else with a bob style or a curly style makes the headlines. Natalie Aranda writes about health and beauty. Women have the desire to have their hair looking gorgeous each and every day and that is why female consumers spend billions of dollars each year buying hairstyling products. Will the 2006 hairstyles give us the same great looks with celebrity hairstyles or is there a change a coming? The new in fashion for celebrity hairstyles, or what designers are saying, is that short hair is coming back in style. Discount Tanning Bulbs for Your Home

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Trevor Mulholland Tanning beds need to stay in top performance if one wants to get the most out of them. But just as tanning beds could be expensive, keeping them ship-shape may even be more expensive. What if a new tanning bed owner is on a tight budget? Buying discount tanning bulbs would at least free him or her from having to worry about overspending. Even before a person actually buys a tanning bed, he or she should be able to appreciate how much discount tanning bulbs will help with the saving . Bulbs are the most expendable part of a tanning bed. A good tanning bed is one that doesn’t fall apart every so often. Properly taken care of, the ballasts, timers, multimedia features, and other solid bits are there for the long haul - one can rely on that. But tanning bulbs are the heart of any tanning implement, and when the heart winds down, one has to start it up again ASAP. Otherwise one misses a vital tanning date, and that’s like missing a very long heartbeat if one is following a strict fitness regimen! A lot of tanning bulbs found in the market are low-pressure - meaning, they contain more UVA light than any other sort. The other two kinds of light one can find in tanning bulbs are UVB and UVC, and high pressure bulbs contain varying degrees of both. UVA light is considered the weakest of the three. One can trust that a tanning bed that uses 100% UVA lights only offers a low-pressure tan… that is, the kind of tan that poses fewer health risks, but also takes longer to show results. Usually, low-pressure bulbs last 600-1600 hours. But stronger bulbs burn up faster, so high-pressure lamps could last from 400-800 hours only. The safest thing to do is to keep tabs on how long the bulbs are being used, so one can also keep track of the life span of the bulbs one buys. If some bulbs noticeably don’t last as long as other preferred brands, it might be time to shift labels. The dimmer a bulb gets, the less effective it is. This is why owners of tanning salons should strictly follow a regular schedule when changing the bulbs on their lamps and beds. Even if the bulbs don’t look dim yet, it’s good to replace all of them at once with a fresh batch. This makes sure the bed is running at peak performance. But a routine like this could cost a great deal! Discount tanning bulbs would help shrug off this burden. Suntan-bed.com provides you with information on how to determine what the best discount tanning bulbs are and where you can get your tanning bed supplies. Will Islam Rule?

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By Tony Pearce Khaled Mashal, leader of the Hamas movement which won the Palestinian elections in January 2006 gave a speech in Damascus which was broadcast on al-Jazeera TV on February 3rd 2006. He told the European nations to apologise to Islam because: Tomorrow, our nation will sit on the throne of the world. This is not a figment of the imagination, but a fact. Tomorrow we will lead the world, Allah willing. Apologize today, before remorse will do you no good. Our nation is moving forwards, and it is in your interest to respect a victorious nation. His speech went on to say that the first phase of the Islamic world conquest would be the elimination of Israel and the defeat of the West in Iraq. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad agrees. He said in Irans holy city of Qom on 5th January, We must believe in the fact that Islam is not confined to geographical borders, ethnic groups and nations. Its a universal ideology that leads the world to justice. He believes his main mission is to pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance. According to Shiites, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. They believe he will return and be known as the Mahdi and reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world. At the same time the entire Islamic world has been roused to fury over cartoons printed in a Danish newspaper. We have evidence (available on request) which shows how the cartoons row has been cleverly manipulated by Islamic radicals with the aim of uniting Muslims against the West in order to create submission to Islamic demands and to defend Iran and Syria against censure from the UN. It is not a co-incidence that Denmark is set to assume the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council at the very time that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is expected to refer Iran to the Security Council and demand sanctions. At the same time the Security Council wants to question Syria and the regime of President Assad about the murder of Lebanese President Hariri. To portray Denmark as an enemy of the Prophet would be helpful to the Islamic world in creating the idea that all censure of Muslim countries is part of an anti-Islamic western conspiracy. In the UK, Islamic leaders are using the cartoons controversy to put pressure on the government to limit what can be said in the press about Mohammed. Patrick Sookdheo of the Barnabas Fund comments on this, If we pass laws or even simply create a new code of practice for the press specifically to protect Mohammed, I fear it could prove to be the thin end of the wedge. From self-imposed censorship we could soon move to more serious situations. In Pakistan there has been a mandatory death sentence since 1991 for defiling the name of Mohammed. He goes on to show how the Muslim Action Committee is using the cartoons furore to reverse the defeat suffered by the Muslims when the House of Commons unexpectedly voted to pass the Racial and Religious Hatred Bill in a form which does not provide the protection for Muslims which the government had intended. The cartoon controversy led to a demonstration in the streets of London with slogans calling for infidels to be beheaded and showing support of suicide terrorism. One said Europe youll come crawling when Mujahadeen come roaring. There was widespread outrage at this demonstration and moderate Muslims sought to distance themselves from it. However days later a poll of British Muslims revealed that 45% favour the establishment of Sharia (Islamic) law in Britain. This is in line with the world vision of Islam which from the days of its inception is to bring the world into subjection to Allah as defined in the Koran. Mohammeds mission was universal, with the aim of not only preaching, but also changing all existing societies into an Islamic society governed by the laws of Allah, known as the Sharia. Therefore Islam grants radical Muslims a mandate to change the existing society into an Islamic society, to make Islam supreme, and thus dominate every aspect of society. This is not only the desire of fundamentalists like Osama bin Laden, but would seem to be the desire of a large number of Muslims all over the world. This desire is reflected in a document written in 1980 entitled The Islamic Movement in the West by Khurram Murad who was then the head of the Islamic Foundation with branches around the world. He outlined his Islamic revolution and the blueprint of how to bring it about in the West.On page three of his document he posed the question: What is an Islamic movement? He goes on to answer: An Islamic movement is an organised struggle to change the existing society into an Islamic society based on the Koran and the Sunna, and make Islam, which is a code for entire life, supreme and dominant. Such views can find ample justification in the Koran which teaches that Muslims must be supreme over non Muslims and should be engaged in a jihad to achieve this until the Day of Judgement. So lose no heart, nor fall into despair. For you must gain mastery, if you are true in faith. Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book (i.e. Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizya (poll tax to be paid by non Muslims living in a Muslim society) with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. Sura At-Tawba 9:29 (Yusuf Alis Translation). So will Islam rule the world? Of course expressing the aim of world domination and achieving it are two different things. Hitler promised 1000 year Reich but in 1945 Berlin lay in ruins and the Nazis were shattered. The Communist Manifesto spoke of the inevitability of world revolution and Communist dominance, but in 1989 the Berlin Wall came down and in 1991 the Soviet Union fell. I remember talking to wild eyed Maoists at Speakers Corner in London during the 1970s who said their brand of Communism would be victorious and the thoughts of Chairman Mao would last 10,000 years. Now capitalism has come to China and Maos Red Book is a collectors item. Will the same thing happen to the Islamic radicals? Can we find any clue about this in the prophecies of the Bible? What the Islamists have going for them is the wealth generated by oil reserves in Middle Eastern countries which has financed much of the spread of Islam worldwide. It also provides a powerful means of exerting pressure on the rest of the world. Dont upset us if you want a regular supply of the oil necessary to keep your system going. They also have a world wide network of mutual support groups through the mosques and Muslim organisations and the concept of umma which ties Muslims to each other and means that if one is offended all are offended. There are a number of things they do not have going for them however. While it is true that the West is dependent on oil most of which comes from Muslim countries, the Muslims are also dependent on the West to supply technology and trade. If they destroy the West they also will be destroyed in the process. It also needs to be said that despite the concept of umma the Muslim world is divided along many lines Sunni and Shia, moderate and radical, Arab and non Arab. In fact the biggest killers of Muslims in the world today are other Muslims. Amongst non Muslims terrorism and the kind of agitation unleashed by the cartoon controversy has increased a feeling of fear and hostility towards Islam in much of the world. When we come to the Bible there are two major issues we need to look at relevant to this question. Firstly the issue of Israel and the surrounding nations. There are a number of passages in Bible prophecy which show that at the end of this age the Jewish people will return to Israel and make the once desolate land a fertile one again (Ezekiel 36). Jerusalem will be focal point of world attention (Zechariah 12.2-3). The surrounding nations will be hostile to Israel and fulfil the words of Psalm 83.4, Come let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more. In verses 6-8 of this Psalm there is a list of nations, which can be identified with Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Gaza, Syria and Iraq. In 1948, 1967 and 1973 Israel has had to fight wars for survival against superior armies from these countries bent on pushing the Jewish state into the sea. In this Psalm there is a reference to Zeba and Zalmunna, who said, Let us take for ourselves the pastures of God for a possession (v 12). We find reference to Zeba and Zalmunna in Judges 8. They were kings of Midian, leaders of the army, which came against Israel in the days of Gideon. In Judges 8.21 we read: Gideon arose and killed Zeba and Zalmunna and took the ornaments that were on their camels necks. The Hebrew word used for ornaments is ha saharonim, an unusual word, which is correctly translated in the New King James Version as crescent ornaments. The crescent ornament showed dedication to the moon god of paganism. Today there is a world religion, which also uses the crescent as its symbol Islam. Islam embodies everything spoken of in this Psalm in its attitude towards Israel. It is the dominant religion of the countries, which surround Israel. Nevertheless the countries which come against Israel in Psalm 83 are defeated and are not successful in their aim. The prophecy of Ezekiel 38-9 goes further and brings in a great power to the uttermost north leading the armies of Gog and Magog which include Persia in their number. While there is much debate amongst commentators as to the identity of the nations involved there is no doubt where you get to if you go to the uttermost north of Israel Russia. Russia today is emerging from the humiliation of the collapse of the Soviet Union to become a major player in world affairs with its huge oil and gas reserves and its growing arsenal of weapons. Russia has a large Muslim population within its borders and the Asia republics of the former Soviet Union have Muslim majorities. Although Russia became unpopular with the Islamic radicals over its policy in Chechnya, it has historically favoured the Arab states hostile to Israel. President Putin has invited Hamas leaders to Moscow and the Russians are supplying the material for the construction of the Iranian nuclear power station in Busheir which is the cause of the current crisis. If the United States or Israel attacks Iranian nuclear facilities it could bring Russia into the fray of the Middle East powder keg. Whether Russia is the subject of this prophecy is debatable (we have a tape / CD on the subject available on request at 3 including postage). What is not debatable is that Iran / Persia is. Apart from the possibility of Russia, the nations which come against Israel on this occasion are Islamic. They come with the intention of wiping out Israel but they meet their doom on the mountains of Israel as God intervenes directly and destroys those armies. (Ezekiel 38.18-23). The next question to ask is whether or not this event is the same as Armageddon (Zechariah 14, Revelation 16 and 19). There are a number of reasons why I believe it is not (given on the tape already mentioned). If it comes some time before Armageddon one has to ask What would be the effect on the Islamic world of such an event? Far from conquering the world by first conquering Israel, Islam would suffer a humiliating defeat at the hands of God not any human power. The Bible says that this event will cause the Lord (i.e. the God of Israel) to be hallowed in the sight of many nations (Ezekiel 39.27). The clear implication of this is that Islam will not succeed in ruling the world. The Bible teaches that the Antichrist is coming but also that many antichrists have come (1 John 2.18). It is my view that the Islamists are one of the many antichrists who will come before the end of days but not the Antichrist. While they have many characteristics of antichrist denial of Jesus as Son of God, persecution of Christians, a goal of worldwide rule there are a number of features of the Antichrist which do not fit in with Islam. The main ones are these. According to 2 Thessalonians 2.3-4 the second coming of Jesus will be preceded by the revelation of the man of sin who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. In other words he opposes not only the true God but all gods. This is also shown in Daniel 11.37 and Revelation 17.16-17. He also proclaims himself to be god (just as the Roman Caesars did). Both of these aspects of the coming Antichrist are entirely contradictory to Islam which believes in submission to Allah and is wholly opposed to anyone claiming to be a god equal to Allah. In Revelation 13 the false prophet sets up an image to be worshipped by all and causes all to receive the mark of the beast without which they cannot buy or sell. The worship of images is forbidden under Islam so how could an Islamic leader bring in such a system? This also implies a highly technological society which has developed the means to give everyone a number and to control them by some kind of mark which gives them the ability to buy or sell. This fits in much more with a society dominated by the technology developed in the West. The Bible teaches that at the end of days the Beast or Antichrist will rule the world: And authority was given him (the beast) over every tribe, tongue and nation. Revelation 13.7 and that he and the dragon (Satan) who gives him his power are worshipped by all peoples. As we have seen Islam aspires to world dominion. However in my opinion it lacks the ability to deliver on this. You can threaten countries with terrorism and cause chaos but this does not make you popular. The implication of Bible prophecy is that initially the Antichrist will be popular offering people peace and safety (1 Thessalonians 5.3) and be worshipped in return, just as Hitler was very popular when he came to power and was worshipped by people raising their hands and saying Heil Hitler. It is hard to see how Islam could ever be in such a position worldwide. Finally the prophecies of Daniel 9.27 and Isaiah 28.14-19 imply that at the end of days the Antichrist will make a deceptive peace treaty with Israel. If Islam succeeds in ruling the world it would simply snuff Israel out like a child blowing out a candle. Why bother with a peace treaty? Putting all this together in my judgement the most likely scenario goes as follows. There will be a failed Islamic assault on Israel with many seeing that God is not fighting for but against those who seek to destroy Israel. Out of the fear created by this war which threatens the safety of the whole world the Antichrist will arise offering peace and safety probably out of the EU or the UN (or both). He will use the advanced technology of the West to impose a one world economic system backed by an occult religious system which will appeal to people disillusioned by the mess of contemporary religions (including Islam and nominal Christianity). Once this is in place the final period of the great tribulation will begin and a great time of persecution will take place. The world will gather for the final battle of Armageddon involving all nations led by the beast and the false prophet. They will meet their doom when the Lord Jesus returns in power and glory with the saints (believing Christians). As a result of this the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah and He shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 11.15). In that day The Lord shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be The Lord is one and His name one. Zechariah 14.9. Hallelujah! Adults Dating: I Am Not A Kid Anymore

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Elaine Olden Many people find themselves thrown into the dating game after a break-up or divorce. Entering the dating game as an adult can present a few more issues than that of when you were a teenager. Many that find themselves in the adult dating arena are plagued with questions about the ever-changing dating game. If you are looking for answers about the adult dating scene, look no further, the most common questions are here. The most common question in reference to adult dating is how do I get started. The means and ways to find love is the major change from the dating you knew so many years ago. Today adult dating can be completed online, in your local community or even with an advertisement in the newspaper. It has never been easier to find a mate, even from the comfort of your own home. Another good question is how do I find someone like me. Well that is easy to answer also. With the online adult dating services you can specify what type of mate you are looking for. If it is a professional career or a comical personality then you can specify that in your profile. That way your intentions are stated up front and your potential mate knows what you are looking for. You can be picky and choose the right man or woman before sharing dinner with them. Online adult dating takes away much of the awkward dinners where you sit and struggle for words. With online adult dating you can chat online and explore the person without sitting across the table from them. Many people find comfort and security in this online dating approach. Safety is a leading factor in dating in todays society. Many have made the statements that online dating is not safe. Those that are educated and understand the online adult dating world disagree. Online adult dating gives you the opportunity to talk with the person via personal chat or emails for as long as you would like. You can learn a lot about a person from reading their thoughts. In many professionals opinion those that spend time corresponding with the help of adult dating know their partner much better than traditional dating. So how does that make it safer? Because you have a chance to get to know the person before you meet with them in public. If you are not happy with the conversation or way things are going to can change your email, if you are sitting across from them it is much more difficult. What about my kids is another question that many have when it comes to dating again? With the help of online adult dating you can find someone with kids that will understand the difficulty of dating again. This also gives you a chance to get to know the person and make a good choice before you introduce them to the kids. Many of the online adult dating individuals understand what it is like to have children and face many of the same dilemmas as you. Anxiety Disorders

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Seth Miller Anxiety disorders are a range of conditions, both psychological and chemical, in which the patient suffers great fear from being around other people. Recent times have shown an increasing trend in the occurrence of anxiety disorders, and is more frequent in women than men. Statistics indicate that anxiety disorders account for over 30% of annual US expenditures for psychiatric illness, totally over $46 billion. There are many different types of anxiety disorders including panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, phobias and generalized anxiety disorders. Panic disorders involve repeated episodes of intense fear and can include chest pains, abdominal distress, feelings of unreality, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness and fear of dying. Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characteristic of recurring, unwanted thoughts that are difficult to control. The compulsions occur as repeated ritual-like behaviors like checking the water faucet repeatedly. Those suffering from posttraumatic stress syndrome (PTSS) usually experience anxiety, sleeplessness, nightmares and concentration problems as a result of a disaster like the World Trade Center tragedy. They fear that any tragedy can repeat itself and avoid anything that reminds them of the disaster. People with social phobias are generally introverted and avoid social gathering and activities, and those suffering from specific phobias perceive danger from things that are otherwise absolutely devoid of the same. In generalized anxiety disorder a person actually heighten the level of worry and tension with different things associated with day-to-day life that otherwise have a negligible amount of stress associated with them. Physical symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder are muscle tension, headache, fatigue, trembling or nausea. Anxiety Disorders provides detailed information on Anxiety Disorders, Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Anxiety Disorder Symptoms and more. When Studies Mislead: The Skinny on Low Fat Diets

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Richard Helfant When I read the front page headline in the February 7 edition of the New York Times, LOW-FAT DIET DOES NOT CUT HEALTH RISKS, my 35 years as a cardiologist-researcher told me something was probably amiss. The article that followed seemed to faithfully report the conclusions of an 8 year, $4.15 million study of nearly 49,000 postmenopausal women from the Womens Health Initiative (WHI) Trial. But after carefully reviewing the original reports in the Journal of the American Medical Association, I discovered the problem. Fundamental flaws in the research invalidated the dangerously misleading headline. The government sponsored study followed women, ages 50 to 79, to determine whether a group assigned to a low-fat diet lowered their risk of breast and colon cancer, heart attacks and strokes when compared to those allowed to eat whatever they pleased. The researchers found no difference for any of the diseases between the two groups. Authorities hailed the report. Newspaper quotes read: revolutionary, the Rolls-Royce of studies, overturning three decades of wisdom, largely closes the book on a highly publicized chapter of dietary history. Does it? If the women who ate whatever they pleased did as well as those struggling to cut fat intake, doesnt that mean that we are finally and forever free to pursue a diet of bacon cheeseburgers, and chocolate cheesecake? Unfortunately, the answer is no. The reason? The problems with the WHI study make it impossible to draw valid conclusions. The women assigned to the low-fat group were instructed to reduce their total fat to 20% of total energy intake. They fell far short of that goal, decreasing the fat to 29%. Additionally, the comparison group (after receiving a copy of the Dietary Guidelines for America, and other health-related materials) also decreased their dietary fat to approximately 35%. Given the minor dietary differences between the two groups, the resulting minor differences in their bad (LDL) cholesterol levels was predictable. In the low-fat group, average LDL-cholesterol fell from 133 to 123 mg/Dl, while the eat anything group also fell, from 134 to 127! Both levels are well within the recently revised Federal guidelines that recommend LDL-cholesterol be kept below 130 in individuals without additional cardiovascular risk factors. In addition to the low bad cholesterol levels, both groups had high amounts of good (HDL) cholesterol, ranging from 58 to 60 mg/Dl. Normal good cholesterol levels are 30 to 60, and those in the higher ranges are at a significantly lower risk for cardiovascular disease. Thus, both groups had highly desirable cholesterol profiles. It should come as no surprise that the eat anything group had a 30% lower incidence of developing cardiovascular diseases than the researcher-statisticians originally anticipated. The higher prediction of disease occurrence was the main reason why the study was designed to be only eight years in duration. How does this study apply to men? According to the Los Angeles Times, it probably applied to men as well because the disease mechanisms are the same. Even if the study was valid, that conclusion would not be, because the assumption about similar disease mechanisms omits a crucial fact. Since men typically have much lower good (HDL) cholesterol levels than women, decreasing their bad (LDL) cholesterol is considerably more important. Confused? Dont be. A solid body of evidence supports the notion that lifestyle changes do decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. Last year, the American Journal of Epidemiology published a large reportwith a 20 year follow-up–from the Nurses Health Study of dietary fat intake and risk of coronary heart disease. It showed clearly favorable results. In January of this year, a report in The Lancet analyzed the effect of fruit and vegetable consumption in eight studies that included a total of 257,551 men and women with a 13 year average follow-up period. The investigators concluded: Our results provide strong support for the recommendations to consume more than five servings of fruit and vegetables per day, which is likely to cause a major reduction in strokes. Since the WHI study was undertaken, a revolution has taken place in our understanding of specific types of dietary fat. Intakes of specific fats are related far more strongly to heart disease risk than total fat. Collectively, these analyses demonstrate that a diet lower in saturated fat (fatty meats and butter) and trans fat (processed foods, and stick margarines), and higher in monounsaturated (olive, canola and peanut oils) and polyunsaturated fat (safflower, sesame and corn oils), as well as amounts of fruit and vegetables not approached in the WHI Trial, help prevent heart disease. In fact, a trend was observed toward reduction of cardiovascular disease risk in the quartile of women who ate the lowest amounts of saturated and trans fat, and highest monounsaturated and polyunsaturated varieties. If the study had been carried out longer, this observation might well have become statistically significant. The WHI investigators noted this, stating that Trends toward greater reductions in CHD (Coronary Heart Disease) risk was observed in those with lower intakes of saturated fat or trans fat or higher intakes of vegetables/fruits. They concluded by suggesting that more focused diet and lifestyle interventions may be needed to improve risk factors and reduce CVD (cardiovascular) risks. So, what to do? My advice may surprise you. The primary goal of healthy eating is to reach and maintain a normal body weight in order to lower the risks of diabetes, high blood pressure or the metabolic syndrome (the combination of diabetes, hypertension and a particularly malignant form of high LDL-cholesterol). This is best achieved, not by going on a diet, but by learning to develop sensible eating habits. Heart-healthy eating is easier and more satisfying than one might think. There is no need to deprive yourself of an occasional steak or delectable dessert, while nibbling miserably on raw carrots for the rest of your days. Healthy eating is a long-term commitment. It is about choosing nutritious foods that are satisfying by making sensible substitutes, modifying favorite recipes, adopting an experimental attitude, and discovering over time what works best for you. To round out a heart-healthy lifestyle, become physically active. Exercise is the great health facilitator because it increases HDL (good) cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, helps prevent diabetes, and improves heart function. In addition, physical activity is a natural antidepressant, and a great way to rediscover the wonders of your body. Research has shown that you can reap major health benefits with a minimum amount of effort and time. Begin by taking brisk walks for 30 minutes or more, several times a week. Decrease sodium intake if you have a tendency towards high blood pressure, and of course, avoid tobacco exposure. Despite the findings from the WHI Trial, it is vital for women, and men, to understand that simple lifestyle changes do provide invaluable health benefits. They also provide a wonderful bonus. In addition to being healthier, you will look and feel healthier too! Richard Helfant, MD, was Chair of Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was Professor of Medicine at UCLA and UC Irvine. King Of Kings - It’s Not What You Think It Means

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Michael Tummillo King of kings? Lord of lords? We hear Jesus referred to as “King of kings” but what does it mean? We have a great deal of “Christianese” of this genre that we are prone to throwing around, arrogantly expecting that everyone who hears our pious, self-righteous, spiritual jargon will (A) understand us and (B) be impressed with how we wield that sword. For example, I recently gave a young man a book with the word “Christ” in the title. He couldn’t even pronounce it, uncertain as to whether the “CH’ were pronounced like a “K” (as in Kitten) or as the “CH” in “Children.” In case you did not know, “Christ” comes from the Greek “Christos” which refers to the “Anointed One.” Every king and high priest was anointed on the head with holy oil in ancient times, a tradition that continues during coronations of monarchs of European and Arabian history to this day. The Hebrew word for “Christos” is “Messiah.” Many believe that “King of kings and Lord of lords” refers to Jesus Christ’s supremacy over biblical kings such as Herod, Pontius Pilate, all the rulers whose names are mentioned in the Old Testament. Certainly, history’s kings like Charlemagne and Henry VIII, even America’s Presidents were all much lower “kings” than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But the phrase refers to something much more important than earthly kingdoms and territorial governments. God, through His Christ - the Anointed King - broke into the world to establish His own sovereignty in the lives of every man and, thereby, defeat the powers of Satan (I John 3:8). Logically, the message we have to offer the world should center upon this. Sadly, too often it does not. A primary example of this - a major issue within the Body of Christ that serves to do little more than create or fuel the fires of dissension - is that we are unwittingly, if not deliberately, preaching a Gospel of Salvation rather than the Gospel of the Kingdom as Jesus exemplified. Think about it! From one denomination to the next, the methods regarding how an individual is “saved” are legion. Baptism, professions of faith, adherence to dogmas and doctrines of men, recited prayers, mere membership…the list goes on and on, especially in “Christian” America. The Kingdom message has cosmic dimensions WAY beyond conversion of the masses (Jesus instructed us to make disciples, not mere converts). It calls people to repentance on the basis of the works of the King - NOT their own deeds. This King governs a spiritual Kingdom; He loves them and desires to rule with them in the world. Once that commitment is made, one can be properly discipled to reflect the nature of this holy God in whose image we were made, spirit-beings whose earthly mission is to advance the Kingdom by sharing this Good News with others, NOT converting them or even merely dragging them to a church service. KING OF THE JEWS…AND OTHERS! Our King elected a people to become His kingdom even though all the world was already His (Deut. 7:6-8). Apparently, Kings can do that sort of thing. His chosen people - the Jews - were to be “a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Ex. 19:5-6). As the Levites were priests of Israel, so Israel was to be a kingdom of priests for the world. In case you don’t know or have forgotten, priests represent a people to God; prophets deliver the will of God to His people. Under the New Covenant, Jesus is, of course, our HIGH priest with His followers (you and me included) serving as priests. No pecking order. No hierarchy. No titles. Just responsibilities motivated by love. In the Old Testament, we see Israel as the only nation ever in the history of mankind living according to a theocracy with God Himself as the Ruler of His Divine Government. Muslims would, of course, argue that point. Wrong god actually. But Israel wanted an earthly king like all the nations had. They preferred someone they could elect and unelect. But that does not describe a king, does it? No, because kings are BORN, not elected. The prophets Gideon (Judg. 8:22-23) and Samuel (1 Sam. 8:1-8) told the Israelites that God was their king. That wasn’t good enough. So, God allowed them to have their earthly counterfeit, warning them that their king would take their sons to do his fighting and their daughters to do his bidding and their belongings as taxes. Unphased, they persisted and Saul was eventually anointed the first king over Israel with the words “Has not the Lord anointed you a ruler over his inheritance?” (1 Sam. 10:1). Obviously, the rule of God would always be sovereign over the rule of the king. Earthly kings who followed the reign of God, were blessed. When they forsook Him and acknowledged the sovereignty of other gods, or took the reigns themselves, even declaring themselves to be god, they were driven out of their promised land (2 Kings 17:13-18). In the case of King Saul, just as surely as he was chosen by God to be King, the Lord rejected Saul when he failed as King. I Samuel 13 records how Saul disobeyed a direct order from the Lord and how the prophet Samuel immediately told the king that his lineage would not continue as Kings of Israel and that the Lord had already chosen another to take his place as King. Though Saul continued as a sort of “lame duck” king for a while before David became king, God’s blessing was no longer on him and Saul and his house ended in tragedy. Today, when we forsake the New Testament concept of “Jesus is Lord,” (”Lord” coming from “kyrios” meaning “owner”) what we are actually doing is choosing another god (note lower case “g”). Whether it’s power, money, prestige, fame, addictions, careers, even religion…many are the gods who are vying for rulership over our lives, essentially, holding us in bondage as their slaves. While we’re convinced that WE are in control, the truth is that we are mere puppets in their icy grip. As Bob Dylan sang, “We’re gonna serve somebody.” Although Israel was God’s special kingdom of priests, God ruled over ALL nations and they were ALL accountable to Him for their sins (Amos 1-2; Ezek. 25-32). In other words, He is God whether one acknowledges Him or not. WARNING: Every counterfeit kingdom WILL fall and fall hard. You may recall that God, who freed the Israelites from Egyptian captivity, also delivered the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir (Amos 9:7). God not only gave Canaan to the Jews but also gave the Moabites and Ammonites their own lands (Deut. 2:16-19). God sent the Jewish prophet Jonah to save the Assyrian city of Nineveh. The theme of Daniel is that “the Most High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men” (Dan. 5:21). “The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all” (Ps. 103:19). So, Israel was elected by God to become a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Ex. 19:5-6), chosen to represent God to the entire world (Deut. 7:6-8) as “a light to the nations” (Isa. 42:6; 49:6). Unfortunately, Israel abandoned her priestly role and followed after the gods of other nations, forsaking the Kingdom of God. The expectation that God’s rule would be experienced more fully by the entire world in the person of the Messiah was prophesied throughout the Old Testament. Isaiah prophesied that one would come and proclaimed “Your God reigns!” (Isa. 52:7). Ezekiel raised the expectation that Israel and Judah would be reunited and that God’s “servant David” would be king over them (37:24; 34:23, see also 30-31). The chapters of Daniel that deal with the setting up of a great Kingdom compare the kingdoms of the earth to the coming spiritual Kingdom of God (2, 7, 8). God’s Kingdom, which will “never be destroyed” (2:44), will crush all earthly kingdoms (7:13-14, 17-18). The Messiah, who would bring the Kingdom, ruling it as the Anointed One, or Christ, was given “dominion, glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and men of every language might serve Him” (7:14). These passages give a sampling of the Old Testament’s prophetic Kingdom concept. The Jews of Jesus’ day wondered aloud if He could be the foretold Messiah who would bring in the expected kingdom (John 7:40-43). The difference was, they were expecting an earthly King to establish an earthly kingdom. Matthew comments that Jesus “went throughout Galilee,…preaching the good news of the Kingdom” (4:23). This proclamation was backed up by the deeds that defeated the powers of Satan: demons were cast out by the finger of God and the sick - most of them anyway, according to their faith - were healed (Matt. 4:23-24). By Mark’s account, those who heard Jesus’ Kingdom message were told to “repent, and believe in the Gospel” (1:15). That’s it? All He required of them was to believe in the Gospel He proclaimed? The word “Gospel” means “Good News.” What good news? The Good News that the Kingdom of God was now in operation among them; the Kingdom of God was at hand (Matt 3;32;4:17;10:17; Mark 1:15), in other words. It was within reach; touchable. It was Jesus! It was now time for each person individually to respond to the mighty acts of God as displayed by Jesus Himself. With many having expectations set upon the establishment of a new earthly kingdom, in excited anticipation, the people came to see Jesus in droves. When they heard His message and experienced His miracles, many believed and He was acclaimed as being the long-awaited Messiah. Word spread fast, as anyone living in a small town knows. We cannot imagine the ruckus Jesus must have caused! THE KING DWELLS WHERE? 1 Peter 2:4-10 reads as follows: Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is also contained in the Scripture, ” Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient,” The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,” and ” A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. The Lord wants His priests and kings to start believing in their calling. How can we when so few ever hear this message taught? 2 Chronicles 6;18 begs the question, “But will God really dwell on earth with men?” Will God dwell among us? It appears that He has already begun the process: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23). Yes, God is with us. God is a family man, so to speak. He desires intimacy with His kids. Now, because of the resurrection of Jesus, Romans 8:37-39 says, “Nothing can separate us from the love of God ” That’s exactly how He planned it. Paul tells the Ephesian church, “I pray, that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being.” (Eph. 3:16). Where is the Hoy Spirit? Apparently, Paul says He’s within us. He adds, ” that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God,” (Eph. 3:19). Yes, Jesus Christ has taken up residence within us. More proof? 1 Corinthians 6:19 reminds us that, “…your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit WHO IS IN YOU, whom you have from God, and you are not your own…” He dwells not merely among us but WITHIN us: “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” (Rom 8:11) We have residing WITHIN us, all that we need to advance God’s kingdom here on earth as His priests and kings. Where the King dwells so is His Kingdom. Luke 17:20-21 declares, “Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, See here! or See there! For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” What’s this Kingdom like anyway? Frankly, it’s like no Kingdom on earth. Righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. The first shall be last. The weak are strong. We are instructed to pray for those who abuse us, love our enemies, give to receive, befriend sinners, the greatest will be the servants. More? We have to become like little children if we ever hope to enter into it. We have to roll-back our grown-up habits and programming - even our theology. It helps to visualize an upside down pyramid, not a Corporate Pyramid with the bosses at the top. With the upside-down pyramid, Jesus is at the very bottom playing a foundational, supporting role to everybody else as servant of all, setting an example for every king and priest who will follow.ALL THE KING’S MEN So…are we kings? Revelation 1:5-6 says we are: “…and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first-begotten of the dead, and the prince over the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father, to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Logic says that, if we have been given authority to declare the decrees of the King, we are, essentially, as good as being King. After all, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28). Also, 1 Corinthians 1:30 tells us: “It is because of Him [God] that you are in Christ Jesus…” We are in Him and He is in us. In other words, God made us kings; it was His idea. To help us understand this concept, I offer the following story which I overheard from a missionary in Africa years ago, He was pulled low to the ground by his African guide, forced to bow to the courier who was running past them carrying the royal baton, the symbol that this runner was an ambassador of the King. We, too, are ambassadors of a kingdom. In most cases, we just don’t know it yet. Paul said it best, I think, giving us a wonderful example of HOW to share with others what we have been given: “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Much better than, “You’re a sinner, bud, and you’re going to Hell.” Most people already KNOW they’re sinners…they want an answer to that problem. In Daniel 7, the prophet sees one like the “son of man” ascending to the ancient of Days to receive all power and dominion. This does not refer to a “second coming,” but predicts the ascension of Christ. Jesus, the Last Adam, would overcome the four empires of the ancient world, and would be enthroned at His Fathers right hand. It’s important to note that the rule of this “son of man” also involves the rule of the “saints” (Daniel 7:18, 22). Verse 27 is worth noting: “…the sovereignty, power, and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the saints of the Most High. His kingdom will last forever, and all rulers will serve and obey him.” The situation that results when dominion is “given to the saints” is called “His kingdom.” Jesus ascension establishes not only His reign but the dominion of His people. The apostle Paul understood this concept. In Ephesians 2:6, he says, “…[God] raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” Those who were formerly dead in transgressions and sins have now been exalted into the heavenly places in Christ. Being positioned in the heavens means we are enthroned (see also Ephesians 1:21-23). In short, we were crucified with Christ. We were resurrected with Him. We are enthroned with Him We are already kings…not in the future but NOW!WARRIOR KINGS…THAT’S US! Kings not only rule but they engage in warfare, too. Even when he ascended to the throne, King David continued to wage war against the Lords enemies and his own. Jesus is enthroned, but He is also the Warrior King who leads His people in conquest. Likewise, we are warrior kings. The training for kingship means having our fingers trained for battle, our hands to make war. How? In Romans 6, we have been given the power, by the Holy Spirit, to wage war against the flesh and to subdue it. In James 3, the apostle speaks of dominion over the tongue by comparing it to Adamic dominion over animals. This is a crucial point. Adams fallen children continued to take dominion, building cities, discovering metallurgy, composing music (Genesis 4), but the result of their dominion was a world filled with violence and evil. Unbelievers may have astonishing cultural dominion, but outside of Christ they remain slaves of Satan, sin, and death. In our homes, unbelieving and believing parents are supposed to rule. There should be a significant difference in HOW they rule. Ruling a family as a Christian means ruling it according to the King’s decrees as noted in Scripture. The Bible has a great deal to say about how we are to rule our homes. It teaches about relationships between spouses (Ephesians 5:22-33) and parents to children (Proverbs). Paul warns against provoking children to wrath (Ephesians 6:4). Being a Christian king means ruling your family in obedience to Christ. Children are more likely to follow this example when they see it modeled. Christians as kings will also seek to rule in the workplace in obedience to the King’s decrees in Scripture. Christian employers, for example, will keep the biblical command to give employees a “Sabbath”in which to rest (Exodus 20:8-11) and to provide fair and timely wages (Lev 19:13; Deut 24:14-15; James 5:4). They will give the Lord a tithe of business profits (Malachi 3:7-12), and will not run their business as if Mammon were their god (Matt 6:24). No matter where we labor - even as volunteers or within our own gardens at home - it can be done in obedience to Christ and for His glory. Even slaves, as Paul wrote, should not work to please men but to please Christ (Ephesians 6:5-8). I was once given a vision of miniature white castles dotting the landscape - dozens of them. The Lord revealed to me that these were churches with many ministers either setting themselves up, or being looked upon, as kings. One thing that the Lord has never given man dominion over is other men. As we revert to our Adamic nature to be ruled over by people - just as the Children of Israel desired a king like all the other nations had when they already had God Himself - we ascribe greatness to others and, true to form, start believing our own press, reveling in the adulation and popularity. Bonsai trees Mastery - Different styles in Bonsai Gardening

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

By Dave Green We all know about the basic Bonsai gardening, but that’s just the beginning. To really own a masterpiece Bonsai, one must require good styling skills. Styling in Bonsai trees can be broadly categorized according to the number of trunks they the tree has. This can be divided to single trunk and multiple trunks. Single trunk styling The single trunk styling in Bonsai can be further classified into four types namely, Formal upright, Slanting, Cascade, and Twisted style. Formal upright bonsai gardening The formal upright style is also called the Chokkan style. This style is adopted only by the experienced Bonsai artists. If you are a beginner you are advised not to go for this style. The Chokkan style is considered as the most complex style of Bonsai trees. Tachiki, Hokidachi, Sabamiki, Saramiki, Sekijoju, Ishitsuki, and Neagari are some the sub categories in the Chokkan style. Bonsai gardening style for beginners The slanting style called the Shakan style is more common for the beginners to use. In the slanting style all the branches can come to one side of the trunk (windswept style) or a few branches will come out of the top while the main trunk is long. Cascade style of Bonsai gardening The Cascade style or the Kengai style has the bottom trunk below the pot. The other trunks are formal upright. Two sub categories called the Formal cascade and the Semi cascade are available in this type. These are also called the Dai Kengai and the Han Kengai. Twisted style of Bonsai Gardening The twisted style is called the Bankan style, which is a favorite of the Chinese. This style is referred to as the dragon style, as the tree coils itself like a dragon. Sub categories to this style include partially twisted and the octopus style (where the branches twist around themselves). Multiple trunks style The multiple trunks style simply means this Bonsai has multiple plants in the same pot. The styles in these types include Soju style, Yose style, and the Korabuki style. Soju style with Soja style there are two trunks in a pot. Yose style Bonsais With more than two trunks are categorized as the Yose style. The Yose style also varies depending on the number of trunks that are available in the pot. 3, 5, 7, and 9 trunks are called, Sambon Yose, Gohon yose, Nanahon yose, and Kyuhon yose respectively. Korabuki style There are styles where the different trunks arise from the single root. A style called the Korabuki style is also a part of the multi trunk category. The style looks very different in that it looks as if the tree as fallen down and the branches of the tree look like individual trees. Whatever be the style of your bonsai gardening it is necessary to maintain them properly with professional care. Come and learn more about Bonsai trees at the net’s best Bonsai Tree care Blog. Crafting A Stellar Career Summary For Your Resume

Friday, November 16th, 2007

By Cheryl Lynch Simpson Are you a career changer? Or, are you satisfied with your stable career but interested in updating your resume? Are you aprofessional who has tried different things but are still searching for the kind of work that best suits you? Whatever yourcareer situation, what your resume most needs is a stellar career summary. What difference can a career summary make for you? Here are 4 reasons why you need one in your resume: 1.)A career summary communicates more about you and does so more powerfully than an objective statement. 2.)Employers love career summaries and use them to preview your resume. If they like your summary, theyre more likely to read your whole resume. 3.)A summary does a superlative job of masking weaknesses in your work history (too much experience, too little, too many different kinds of jobs, gaps in employment, ineffectual titles, and everything else you can think of) 4.)A career summary tells the employer what you most want them to know, up front. It therefore sells you well and sets you up to be asked the kinds of interview questions you really want to be asked. All right, so a career summary is a good thing. What does it look like? A summary can be a short paragraph of 2-4 sentences or a brief phrase or sentence introducing a series of 4-8 bullets, depending on the communications style you prefer. It can be preceded by a job title or list of specialty areas that you wish to highlight. The summaryalways goes at the top of the resume immediately following your name and contact information. Generally a good career summary will profile some mixture of the following kinds of critical details: Abrief overview of the breadth and scope of your experience Academic credentials, if relevant 3-5 skillsets that set you apart from the competition 3-5 personality characteristics that describe the workplace you Hints about your most important work-related values. Okay, so all that sounds good, but what does a career summary look like? Here are two different versions of a summary that you can play with and make your own: Career and Workforce Development Administrator Coaching Training & Development Program Design Seasoned, articulate and visionary professional with over 19 years experience in all facets of career and workforce development in both corporate and social service settings.
